Question: Sir Epi long time unanswered question: “DID THE WORD DIE?”

My answer: NO

The bible explains that the Word who was made flesh did not just suddenly turn from “eternal spirit” to “flesh”. He was conceived in the womb of a woman through the power of the Holy Spirit and was born as a human baby through a virgin birth. (Matt 1:18-23, Luke 1:26-31)

As a man He possesses a body. And in that form (Phil 2:7) He was two natures in one person, one was fully human and the other which ruled over it was spirit, who was God. He was “God” manifest in the “flesh” as the bible again teaches. (1 Tim 3:16)

When he died, God (who is spirit) was “separated” from the body temporarily until the resurrection of which he also had control of. Again, the bible teaches that death is a separation of the body and the spirit. For as the body without the spirit is dead. (James 2:26) This means that when a spirit separates from the body, it is dead.

Now here is the main point of our discussion sir Epi.

Christ, did not cease to live when he died on the cross since, as the Bible will show, the Lord’s soul was still consciously alive during the three days his body lay in the tomb. Only His body died and ceased to function.

Here’s the proof from Jesus own words:

“Jesus answered them, ‘Destroy this temple, AND I WILL RAISE IT AGAIN IN THREE DAYS.’ The Jews replied, ‘It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and YOU are going to raise it in three days?’ But the temple he had spoken of was HIS BODY. After he was raised from the dead, his disciples recalled what he had said. Then they believed the Scripture and the words that Jesus had spoken.” John 2:19-22

“The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life–only to take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down OF MY OWN ACCORD. I have authority to lay it down and authority TO TAKE IT UP AGAIN. This command I received from my Father.” John 10:17-18

FACTS: The only way that Christ could be able “to raise himself” from the dead is if He were still consciously alive. HE RAISES HIS OWN BODY.

This establishes that Christ did not cease to exist for those three days that his body remained in the grave. Both Christ’s divine nature and his human soul were still conscious during that period of time.

EMA: We are poles apart in our beliefs sir Bobby. And I disagree with your phrases “the bible explains” and “the bible teaches” because the explanations and teachings you wrote are your own and not what the bible explains and teaches.

My position is that the WORD DIED. The reason the Word died is because he shed off his immortality. He did not merely put on flesh like a man putting on clothes. The clothes put on are never part of the man and clothes don’t acquire a personality of its own. The Word and Christ is one and the same being not two separate persons where one could remain alive while the other is dead.

Your statement “Christ, did not cease to live when he died on the cross” is contradictory. A person is either dead or alive but not both at the same time.

That Jesus laid down his life, not only his body, but his very LIFE, is that he could have chosen not to submit himself to be killed. He submitted to the Father’s will even when the thought of being tortured and killed bothered him so much that as he prayed, “His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground”.

Luke 22:41 And He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s throw, and He knelt down and prayed, 42 saying, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.” 43 Then an angel appeared to Him from heaven, strengthening Him. 44 And being in agony, He prayed more earnestly. Then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.

And the bible is very very clear. Jesus did not raise himself up from the dead. God, the Father did.

Acts 13:30 But God raised Him from the dead.

If “Christ did not cease to exist for those three days that his body remained in the grave”, what you are saying plainly is that Christ did not really die.

No wonder the end of this age hasn’t come yet. The gospel hasn’t been preached in all the world as a witness because what your group had been preaching is not the good news that Jesus died in behalf of all men. (Matt. 24:14)
